DNA fragmentation testing is recommended for anyone who:
- May be doing fertility treatment, such as IUI or IVF
- Is experiencing unexplained infertility
- Has experienced pregnancy loss
- Has risk factors for elevated DNA fragmentation, inlcuding:
- A history of chemotherapy or vasectomy/vasectomy reversal
- Lifestyle factors such as smoking or cannabis use
- Advanced paternal age (over 35)
Importantly, even those with normal results on a standard semen analysis can have elevated DNA fragmentation, which could impact a couple's ability to get or stay pregnant.
